The Government of Afghanistan is investigating new reports that the Taliban leader Mullah Omar died up to 3 years ago. The claim was made according to sources within Afghanistan’s administration and intelligence agency.
According to the BBC the Taliban is expected to release a public statement on the matter soon.
Mullah Omar was the spiritual leader and supreme commander of the Taliban and Afghanistan’s head of state from 1996 to 2001 at which point the Taliban was removed from power in the United States invasion and now 13-year involvement in in the country.
As of today the Mullah Omar is listed in the United States “Rewards for Justice” program as worth US10 million dollars for information leading to his capture, making him one of the most sort after men in the world.
The United States Government claims “Mullah Omar’s Taliban regime in Afghanistan sheltered Osama bin-Laden and his Al-Qa’ida network in the years prior to the September 11 attacks.”
